Richard's Motorbikes

Today Steve is taking Joey and Tom to his friends house to see his motorbikes.  Richard is Steve's friend, who fixes and restores motorbikes - a two-wheeled vehicle that is driven by a petrol engine.   

 

The first motorbike they look at has been made from recycled materials (Coke cans).   "Wow! exclaims Joey as he sits on the motorbike, "This is so neat."

The next bike is smaller but it is just as neat.  

They walk to the other side of the garden where Richard has parked some  motorbikes.   "Brrm, brrm," says Tom as he climbs onto the seat of the motorbike and pretends to rev it up.

Steve can't resist any longer and starts the motorbike up and gives Joey and Tom a ride, separately, to the end of the street and back.

Joey sits on the biggest motorbike here today and can't reach the foot rests and handle bars.    Joey will have to grow a lot before he will be big enough to drive this motorbike.

  

The visit ends with Steve, Joey and Tom examining the tractor. The boys enjoy having turns siting on it.  Steve thanks Richard for inviting them

over to have a look at the motorbikes.  Joey and Tom talk about the bikes all the way home. They will always remember this great day.

A Visit to the Zoo - part 1

Some of the Hitty girls have decided to visit the zoo today.

They arrive at the zoo and walk towards the grazer animals area.   They can walk right up to the zebra.

While they are admiring him two other zebras trot over to see if the Hitty girls have any food for them.   There is a notice on the fence that says, Do Not Feed the Animals. The Hitty girls pat the zebras and then walk over to the nearby elephant.

The elephant is walking towards a bush where the girls can hear a shuffling noise coming from behind it.

Behind the bush a baby elephant emerges and walks towards its' mother.

The baby elephant stands by his mother, lifts its' trunk and lets out a screech.  He is warning  the  girls to keep away from his mother!

The girls walk behind the mother elephant to the other side.  The baby elephant turns around and  raises his trunk again to give a screech.  "Come on," yells Yasmin, "Let's go before he charges us."

The girls quickly walk towards a herd of camels.

The camel attendant asks the girls if they would like a ride on a camel.   They all accept and each girl has a ride around the camel enclosure.

The giraffes are in the next enclosure. The giraffes are the pride and joy of this zoo because they have bred an albino giraffe.    Rachel accepts a branch with leaves from the zoo attendant and holds it up for the albino giraffe which is walking towards her.

The albino giraffe puts his tongue out and wraps it around the branch with leaves and eats it up.

The girls are now hungry  and decide to go the zoo cafe for lunch.

 After lunch Yasmin asks Rachel "Where's your shoulder bag?"  Rachel replies, "Oh! no! I took it off when I fed the giraffe."  

Rachel goes back to the giraffe enclosure and finds her bag. Her bag is around the neck of the albino giraffe!

Rachel runs back to the other girls who have been waiting for her and she tells them where she found her bag!   They all laugh and laugh...

Hitty Girls Babysit for Mothers to do Christmas Shopping

The Hitty girls decided at the November Helping Hands meeting that they would babysit preschoolers for mothers from 9am to 3pm next Tuesday so that the mothers can go and do some Christmas shopping without the children.

The Hitty girls arrive at 8.30 am on Tuesday morning at Kowhai Corner Hall to set up. The babies and toddlers start arriving at 8.40 am!   Brenda  arrives with three of her children.

                                    

Tricia greets Brenda and takes the children inside the hall and introduces them to the other children.

Aunt Susan  arrives with her baby and  offers to stay and help.  The Hitty girls want to look after the children on their own. Stephie arrives next with Sweets and is welcomed by Annabelle.  

Stephie is passing Sweets to Annabelle when Daisy arrives with William.   Brenda, Stephie and Daisy are going shopping  together.

 The Hitty girls are busy with so many children to look after.

Two hours later at the hall, Tricia is trying to give Hope her bottle.   Annabelle is successfully giving Sweets her bottle and William is playing with a toy car.   Alana is putting a baby in her pram for a sleep.   Thelma is rocking one of the twins to sleep.  Jackie is happily playing with a teddy bear.    Aunt Susan has gone home because her baby was unsettled and cried a lot. The Hitty girls are pleased she has left.

Meanwhile at the Mall... Daisy, Stephie and Brenda  have finished their shopping and have put it in the car.   They walk back to the Mall Cafe to have lunch.   They buy a drink each and a pizza to share.   Daisy is about to cut the pizza when Ruby and Selena arrive.

                                    

Ruby and Selena are invited to join them.    Daisy starts reminiscing about her life before she married John Sunshine. 

                                          


Daisy use to belong to an Ice Skating Club and performed in the end of year shows when she was a teenager.

Daisy also learnt ballet and danced on the stage in public performances.

Daisy recalls when she attended High School Selena knitted a dress and Daisy modeled it and Selena won an award for her knitting.

Selena interrupts to share that she has met a new shearer at Kowhai Tree Farm recently. She  shows them his photo. The ladies gasp in surprise when Selena describes him as handsome and hopes to go out with him again! They want to know more but the time has moved on and it is time for Brenda, Stephie and Daisy to leave to pick up their children at the hall. They are going to ask the Hitty girls to babysit again!

 The Hitty girls hear a car engine and look out the window very much relieved to see them return.Brenda, Daisy and Stephie arrive back at the hall at 2.55 pm. It has been a challenging experience for the Hitty girls to look after so many preschoolers at once. The mothers thank the Hitty girls and all go home happy.

Ed note; The Hitty girls didn't expect babies and toddlers from another town to arrive!
